Your photographer is with you from the first details of the morning to the last dance, and your photos are what you'll keep long after the day is over. When you start comparing wedding photographers, these are the questions I recommend every couple ask, from my years photographing weddings across Central Florida with Created by Patty.

About style and experience

  1. How would you describe your style? Look for a full gallery from one wedding, not just a highlight reel, so you see how they capture a whole day.

  2. Have you photographed at our venue, or somewhere like it? Experience with similar light and spaces helps, though a great photographer adapts anywhere.

  3. How do you guide couples who feel awkward in front of the camera? Most couples do at first. You want someone who makes posing feel natural and easy.

About the day itself

  1. How many hours do you recommend for our wedding? A good photographer will ask about your timeline before suggesting coverage.

  2. Will there be a second photographer? Two photographers can capture both sides getting ready, and two angles of your ceremony.

  3. Do you help with the timeline? Someone who builds the photo timeline with you can save a lot of stress on the day.

About your photos

  1. How many photos will we receive, and when? Ask about sneak peeks, too. Nobody wants to wait months to see a single image.

  2. How will we receive our gallery, and can we print our photos? An online gallery with download and printing options makes sharing easy.

  3. How do you protect our photos? Ask about backup cards and file storage. Your photos should live in more than one place.

About booking

  1. What does it take to secure our date? Most photographers ask for a signed contract and a retainer, so it's good to know the steps.

The most important question

The best question isn't on any list: do you feel comfortable with this person? You'll spend more time with your photographer than almost anyone else on your wedding day. If you'd like to get to know me and ask any of these questions, my consultations are always complimentary. I'm Patty, the photographer behind Created by Patty, and I photograph weddings across Florida and North Carolina.
